Kelly Chamblee was on a road trip in 2007 when she realized her path was to start a business that married her love of nature to a space where people could share their knowledge of everything green. Last fall KellyGreen-Way.com launched, and she’s been busy ever since. Just like our inspirational shirts, Kelly’s other products are eco-friendly, fairly traded and sustainable.
We spoke to Kelly for today’s retailer interview.
When and why did you start your business?
KellyGreen-Way.com launched in September 2009. The concept to have my own ‘store’ started about a year prior when my husband and I were discussing our New Year’s resolutions. I casually mentioned that I would love to own my own eco-boutique in town. This one simple sentence started the ball rolling and now KellyGreen-Way.com features over 300 eco-products from around the world. I knew that I wanted to help people and now I am doing so by teaching about green living, as well as providing the products to support a green lifestyle.
What have been some of your greatest successes so far with your business?
Being that I just launched at the end of last year, my proudest accomplishment is actually launching KellyGreen-Way.com! Prior to KellyGreen-Way.com, I had no experience designing or starting my own website and I have to say that it was much more than I ever imagined. But in the end, it was well worth it! I am also excited that I am starting to be recognized by publishers and bloggers in the green world. It takes time to get your name out there and get recognized, and it is finally happening!
What do you like most about running your business?
I love that I can help people. I can share with everyone my knowledge about green living and also provide a means to purchase the products that support this type of lifestyle. I also like to connect to people that share the same ideals as I do. We are a great community and we are growing!
What’s next for your business?
This year I plan to expand my product assortment by adding more green lines such as furniture, bedding, outdoor goodies, fabrics and more. Besides selling basic green products for family and home, I want KellyGreen-Way.com to be a one-stop destination for anyone and everyone to buy products and learn about living a green lifestyle.
My main goal this year, though, is to greatly expand the green living learning forum. I have a children’s book online called, “You Too Can Be An Earthy Kid,” which teaches children about green living that I plan to complete this year. And the adult learning section of my website will soon feature green tips, eco-terms, helpful web-sites, the latest news and how to get involved.
And lastly, in the next month, I will be sending out e-newsletters to stay in touch with my customers and those interested in being in the know! Pretty exciting things happening this year!

I get so excited when I read about people who are beginning new businesses that will teach children about the benefits of green living. For it will be today’s children who will grow into responsible adults and teach their children the green way of living. I’m hoping there will be a future when no one has to say the word “green” living because green living will be a normal way of life. Happy Earth Day to all!
PS – Kelly, I’m so proud of you! Love, Mom
